In March 2023, Depeche Mode released its 15th studio album “Memento Mori” and launched a global concert tour. Hublot continues to collaborate with the band, which has sold more than 100 million records, to jointly raise funds for the Conservation Collective and increase people’s environmental awareness. Conservation Collective is a global charity that protects, preserves and restores the natural environment. Thanks to sponsorships from Depeche Mode and Hublot, the first round of the project in 2023 has already supported seven important initiatives in seven countries, while three further rounds of funding will drive wider change. The projects aim to turn the tide on plastic pollution by promoting locally-led waste management, plastic-free and clean-up initiatives.
In Berlin, the capital of Germany, Hublot and Depeche Mode have joined forces again to launch a new limited edition watch after 11 years: The Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode. This Big Bang soul watch continues Hublot’s iconic all-black aesthetic design, integrating skull patterns with hourglasses, symbolizing the passage of time and the brevity of life.
The watch adopts Hublot’s iconic barrel-shaped shape. The center of the dial is covered with small black ceramic balls, which flow back and forth as the wrist moves, conveying the concept of “Memento Mori” and aiming to arouse people’s reflection on life. On the dial, the British band’s logo abbreviation DM appears at 6 o’clock, and the hour markers are in the form of pyramid studs, which complement the black ceramic bezel and create a unique rock and roll atmosphere.
The barrel-shaped case measures 42 mm and is made of sandblasted and polished black ceramic. It is equipped with a self-winding HUB1710_SD movement with a 50-hour power reserve. Each Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode comes with two straps that are easily interchangeable thanks to the patented One Click system. The first strap is made from recycled materials and Velcro, in line with Conservation Collective’s plastic pollution initiative; the second strap is made from black rubber and features a black titanium folding clasp that echoes the pyramid-shaped decoration on the bezel and dial.
