Richard Mille has been constantly exploring the road of technological breakthroughs. In 2021, RM 74-02 was launched, and its hollow design aesthetics has once again been interpreted in a new way.
Like the original version, this copy watch is entirely made of Gold Carbon TPT®, a high-tech material. This material is composed of 600 parallel carbon fiber layers with a thickness of no more than 30 microns obtained by separating carbon filaments, and then It is soaked in a black matrix and finally assembled using a special machine so that the fibers between the layers and the gold foil layer are interlaced at a 45-degree angle. The material is heated to 120 degrees Celsius and pressurized to 6 bar in an autoclave similar to those used to make aerospace components, before being sent to the factory for processing.
In addition, this copy RM 74-02 watch also retains the brand’s iconic barrel-shaped case and adopts a hollow design, with a hollow tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The base plate and bridge plate are machined from 18K 5N red gold and 18K 3N gold respectively, and are micro-sandblasted and beveled by hand. These undergo intensive and complete verification testing to ensure their ability to withstand impacts.
The watch movement uses the brand’s self-made CRMT5 movement, which has a 50-hour power reserve function and can also set the level of the oscillating weight according to the wearer’s activities. Moreover, the movement of the watch is fixed by titanium screws. It can be seen that no matter from the details of the tourbillon movement at 6 o’clock to the overall watch, they cannot isolate any link, but are interlocked. The crown is designed in the shape of an eight-pointed star. The three-layer case has two nitrile rubber O-rings and is waterproof to a depth of 50 meters. The watch case is assembled with 20 grade five titanium alloy spline screws and 316L stainless steel wear-resistant gaskets.
